First game up at the Meadows was the U18 team playing Deeside at home in the Caledonia Cup first round. They hadn’t met this season as Ellon are in the National League and Deeside in the Local League. This was evident on the field as Ellon ran away with the game from early on. Deeside made a huge effort against Ellon as they clearly tried to take on their local rivals, but Ellon were too good. Scoring early and continuing a steady score, Ellon defended well and attacked the spaces, although they used the forwards a little too much. In the second half Ellon made use of their subs and the change in play allowed Deeside two tries and a conversion, but Ellon the stepped up the pressure and finished with a run of tries. The final score was 53 – 12 to Ellon and the outcome is a second round game away to Aberdeen Grammar this Saturday.
