Boroughmuir travelled to Ellon from Edinburgh for a National U18 League game, in the only game on this weekend.

The game started well and in the first 15 minutes Ellon were very effective against a strong Boroughmuir team. It was a close start to the game and it was evident that both sets of backs wanted the ball and wanted to run! Boroughmuir used their big fast wingers off forth and fifth phase to score three tries, one converted, to take a 0-17 lead. At 29 minutes, Ellon scored a great try. From a deliberate knock on, Ellon were awarded a scrum rather than a penalty, from which the ball came to James Evans who took on three Boroughmuir defenders and scored. The try was converted well by Paul Paxton on the wing. 7-17. 2 minutes later, strong attack play in the Boroughmuir half and good hands got the ball to Paul Paxton who made 15 m, was tap tackled, got up again and scored a try in the corner. 12-17. Once again good Ellon work up the middle led to a penalty given. Every time Ellon got behind Boroughmuir they gave a penalty away. Kick went for touch and from a good Ellon take, a maul was set up, Jake Martin on the ball broke away as all Boroughmuir players were around the side. From the following ruck Ellon got a penalty as Nathan Shirron was taken out without the ball, kicked for 15-17 at half time.
Second half started well and straight from kick off Ellon again got a penalty, which was kicked by Paul Paxton to put Ellon in the lead 18-17. Then the Ellon defence let Boroughmuir in for four second half tries. Two came from a very professional Boroughmuir front row in the scrum, taking the Ellon loose head out of the game, leading to turn overs. One missed tackle led to Error at back of scrum, and finally a backward peddling Ellon scrum half got caught and turned over for a late Boroughmuir try. Final score was 18-39 in a very good game for the crowd to watch. There was a lot of positives to take form the game, and the young Ellon players have plenty to work on as they move forward. Next Saturday the U18 are away to Hamilton, where they are targeting a strong performance.
While the First XV play at home against high flying Gordonians with a 15:00 Kick off. It is also Ladies day at the club, followed by a club Halloween party!
