The team, playing in their new kit for the first time, started with a good defence effort and a dominant scrum for the first 20 mins but with a new backline structure they were slow to start their attacking game. As seems to be the way at the moment, they lost their composure for 15 minutes and leaked 3 tries for a half time score of 19-0.
Second half started with an early try to Dunfermline, and then fired into gear with some of the best rugby they have played. Defence was solid and attack dominant, leading to a penalty 5m out tapped to Ellis Swainston who got tackled before line, good ruck ball allowed Neil Anderson to sneak over - score: 24-7. With 10 mins to go on the Ellon 10 m line Matthew Emmison broke at 8 from a dominant scrum to beat the Dunfermline 7 and 10, to then step their 15 for a try under the posts – Final score: 24-14.
Head Coach Ross said, "It was a disappointing result, I felt we proved we were good enough to get the win but weren't consistent for the full 70 mins, fair play to Dunfermline. We just need to go into games with self-belief and trust our skills and the structures we have in place”. Next game is against Dumfries at home this Saturday at 13:00.
