We travelled to Mackie with a team of 11 players to play in a two league of 5 teams tournament. We lost our first match against Perthshire 4-0, a good well-organised team, then lost against Deeside 4-1, Wanderers 3-2 and Mackie 3-1. Although losing all our games we played some very good rugby. We certainly showed that we have good runners that can beat any defender and when we managed to off load and create chaos in the defence. Our defence was much better as we started to put some pressure on the attacking line and hold the attacking team for longer periods. For me the best defensive action was against Mackie. After repelling several attempts from Mackie on our try line we got a scrum in our favour 5mtr from our try line. We then won our scrum, scrum half passed to first receiver who kicked the ball and the whole team chased up. A lot of positives to take out of the day and few things to work on such as moving the ball away from the traffic where there are less defence players.
I am really pleased and proud of the players’ effort and attitude throughout the whole tournament. Despite the score the players stood together, never gave up and showed great sportsmanship; when Wanderers were short of players I did not have problem to find volunteers to help (and an Ellon boy scored a try during the match).
Well done everybody!!!! Keep up the hard work!!!
