Ellon P5 Win at Mackie

After the Ellon P5 win last week at Grammar,we travelled to Mackie for another tough weekend of rugby.
We had been drawn in a group with Perthshire,Deeside,Garioch and Mackie Red.
First up were Perthshire who were a big "unit". I felt this would be our test in this group having not played them before.
Ellon P5 took the ball to Perthshire scoring the first try.The Ellon guys then played like I have not seen before this season. The ball moved from wing to wing tiring Perthshire and putting our training into practice. With parents agreeing this was a fantastic display of rugby, ellon ran out winners.
Ellon 5 - Perthshire 2

Next game in the group Deeside.
Always a good match,Deeside play some good rugby.Ellon had to stay aware and thwarted any attack with great defence.Sometimes a little messy we showed great support play and continuity.
Ellon 4 - Deeside 0

Garioch into the fray and again any team can score points if we allow it.Ellon continued with their defence and rucked well. Not allowing Garioch any ball,Ellon progress to the semi,s.
Ellon 4 -Garioch 1

Last in the group our old foe!! Mackie!
Having watched their other games Ellon recognised the threat this team bring.Again early defensive lines, immense tackling, rucking and plenty of pressure Ellon were victorious.
Ellon 4 - Mackie 0

Semi final.
Kinross having come 2nd in their group had been scoring big numbers in their games.2/3 strike runners were quickly identified by Ellon.Heroic tackling, rucking and shipping the ball out wide produced great try's for Ellon. Our support play was off the scale, resulting in Ellon getting a well deserved win.
Ellon 5 - Kinross 2

Final.
Stirling had come to Stonehaven with great confidence looking for a win.The feeling amongst the supporters were that they were favourites for this game.
Ellon at this point were nor fazed in any way. They took the game to Sterling with great confidence, scoring first.
Tackling, rucking, implementing the "jackal" and winning turnovers the Ellon guys showed power in all aspects of their game.
Final score

Ellon 7 - Sterling 3
The score line compliments the Ellon play. This was a final of 2 great sides playing great rugby. It is really good to see the whole Ellon squad take to the field and playing a part, growing in statue.
"Our Defence is the start of our Attack" something these talented guys have bought into. The comments we receive week in week out about the Ellon P5 style of play and commitment is overwhelming.
This team work for each other with 8 out of 10 different players scoring try's over these games. Keep it up guys.
We all look forward to Deeside in 2 weeks.
