After a long trip to Cumbria on Friday it was the first day of the P5 tour games.
Our hosts were Kirkby Lonsdale who fielded 2 teams. Others attending were Upper Eden and Vale of Lune.
Ellon have been training to adapt to the Rfu rules and did so admirably. Ellon's first match saw Vale of Lune show us the way in mauling the ball. Our pitch size was immense being 60m x 40m something which gave Ellon the advantage with their running Rugby.
The scores at half time 0-0.
With the sun and heat beating down Ellon's fitness shone threw.
Final score Ellon 2 Vale 0
Next up a big physical Upper Eden team. Big runners throughout the team and plenty of confidence.
Ellon were now into the English rules, mauling superbly, running hard, off loading and tackling with great spirit the opposing side.
Ellon found themselves 3-0 up at half time after containing any threat.Into the second half Eden cane back with an early try. Ellon then turned up the heat with great running and interpassing eventually running out 5-2 winners. This was a fantastic game played by the whole Ellon squad and impressed the other coaches with some pleasing comments.
Last up saw Ellon play the hosts Kirkby Lonsdale.
The Ellon guys switched off a little letting 2 early try's in. After regrouping and determination the team came back only to lose the game 3-2.
Ellon P5 adapted well to the size of the pitch,8 on the pitch and new rules. The squad thouroughly enjoyed the challenge and produced great results. We recieved fantastic comments regarding our play and the children proved to be great ambassadors of Ellon Rugby scio.
I'd like to thank Jim Tilburn and KLRFC for hosting Ellon giving up their time in giving us all a great day! Thank you!!
Sunday sees Ellon P5 travel to Penrith for hopefully more of the same.
