Tournament Fever!!

Wow!!! What a day!
With the sun out and the pitches ready for some running rugby,P5 put out two teams (of 7) to give the whole squad a game. This was a big risk as we were to play 5 games each in a "Round Robin" but given we have been emphasising on our fitness for the tournament season, I knew the players were up for the task.
Ellon Red
Scores: Ellon 4 v Garioch 7
Ellon 2 v Deeside 5
Ellon 3 v Mackie. 6
Ellon 3 v. Deeside (2). 6
Ellon 4 v Grammar 4
This bunch of players are up and coming and pushing for positions. They all put their Ellon hearts into each game with not only team skills but some great individual too. We had fierce tackling, great rucking and good off loading. As you will see from the score lines the team were very consistent and where Ellon played as a unit other teams had a ball carrying "go to "runner who was hard to stop for the other teams too. The last game against grammar was a "nail biter" as Ellon lead up to the last 20secs when a breakaway score prevailed. Our fitness showed no doubt. To hold the Mackie team as they did was very commendable and I as coach was super proud of your performance. Well done guys!!!!
Ellon Gold
Scores:
Ellon 5 v Deeside 2
Ellon 5. V Grammar 1
Ellon. 4. V. Deeside (2) 1
Ellon. 4. V. Garioch 2
Ellon. 3 v. Mackie. 3
The Ellon guys played some superb rugby. The whole squad have trained hard and listened to the coaches and put this into practice.
Some of the rugby on display was a real joy to watch as the spectators kindly commented.
2 points to note were against Garioch who were literally trying to touch the ball down on our try line, were held up,driven off the line with a ruck and the Ellon team ran the length of the pitch, inter passing to score a try!!!!
Secondly the big Game!!! Mackie had won all of their games and so had Ellon. They had big, physical guys who "bullocked" over the try line in the first few minutes.Half time Ellon 1 Mackie 2.
After a half time chat the Ellon players used their skill and rugby "brains" to play heads up rugby.Mackie scored again, but then after a quick try from some great individual, fast thinking,a quick tap and a sprint,Try to Ellon. Mackie were now on the back foot as Ellon scored again. 3-3 .With Ellon banging on the door time ran out.
With the Round Robin rules,Mackie having scored the first try and more try's than Ellon over the tournament they left with the trophy.
Ellon with a silver medal.

This whole squad of P5's are a smashing group of children. It is a joy to coach them and it is days like this that makes the job well worth while. Well done everyone and keep up the fantastic work.
Coach Geoff
