Great day of rugby, full squad, great weather and finish 3rd.
The first two matches of our group we drew against two strong teams, Grammar Red 4-4 (who won the tournament). We were penalised a lot at the start of the game by the strict but fair referee - frustrating - but the players adapted quickly and carried on playing their rugby. Then we drew 3-3 against Stirling where we were able to match them in attack and defence.
The third game against Wanderers was a win 6-0. Our defence line was much better moving up to close the space. We lost against Mackie 3-4 in the semi-final. As the score line suggests we were competitive in every match and we missed a place in the final by a very close margin, couple of knock ons at a critical time that could have changed the match in our favour.
We then won our third place against Grammar Blue 5-3. Our defence line was much better, always up putting pressure on players and as a result we scored two tries by interception. Overall, a great performance from all players, especially in defence, and the tackling was superb.
Most pleasing was the players’ attitude as on a few occasions things did not go our way but the boys kept their rugby brains switched on, playing their rugby.
Well done everybody.
