Very frustrating to Ellon who wanted to work on scrumaging and line outs, but, with limited numbers the chance were limited. With a reduced timed game, Ellon really focused on moving the ball and putting into action the training from preseason. New player for Ellon Archie Falconer kicked off the scoring by receiving the ball and cutting a strong line to score under pressure out wide after three minutes. Calum Caven then went over after 7 minutes working up the middle of the park with the forwards, converted by Ben Dickie. After 11 mins, Kai Taylor scored the first of his first half hat trick! The forwards worked hard to draw players in and then the ball went wide for Kai to score on the wing. The second try was assisted by Dylan Kemp, a flanker playing in the centres, who received the ball, ran and released Kai to score. In the process Dylan took a late hit which saw him being substituted for the rest of the game. Kai was released again for a third try before the break.
After a half time chat, a change in players playing for Granite City, and all subs used, the forwards took control of the game. Wining all scrums, including against the head, then working in pods, they scored via Tom Gray, Calum Caven, 2 to Lewis Duncan, and a conversion to the teams second new player Josh Andrew. Granite City then ran wide and a missed tackle allowed them to score their only points. Captain Logan Vavangas then scored his first try in three years! It was also converted by Josh Andrew. Final score was 5 - 56 as the game was stopped after two 20 minute periods, due to the score line.
