Ellon 20 vs Highland 53
4 tries vs 9 tries, 4 conversions
This game was the return fixture between Highland and Ellon and proved to be a challenging game. Weather conditions were good with a gusty wind picking up before the game. The first half saw Highland dominating initially, with some strong individual runs and some good cross field kicking from the scrum half, taking advantage of the wind behind their backs. Highland ran in four tries in the first half. Ellon were able to counter with one try after a good passing move again along the back line , out to winger Aidan Laing, who skirted round the Highland defence to run the try in.
The second half saw Ellon applying more attacking pressure with the best results seen from getting the ball quickly along the back line and exploiting the defensive gaps. Aidan Laing again ran in 2 tries with good runs through the Highland defensive line. After some good forward play and pressure on the Highland 22 line, Robbie Milligan was able to carry the ball forward and break through the defence, to score Ellon's fourth try of the game.
Highland had continued to apply pressure in the second half as well and ran in 5 tries, taking advantage of some strong forwards play and good individual runs through the Ellon defence.
Plenty of learning points to be taken from this game in preparation for the next fixture for Ellon.
Congratulations to Reese Melling on his debut game for Ellon.
