Ellon vs Perthshire 30/10/2016

Ellon hosted Perthshire this weekend in the latest Red Conference fixture on a nice sunny Sunday afternoon.
Ellon were well up for this match and couldn’t wait to get started.
Ellon kicked off into the sun and quickly followed up and applied instant pressure to Perthshire on the ball. Some great tackling resulted in us winning the ball back, passing rapidly through the hands for Caleb to run through and score on the right wing for our first try in the second minute of the match, who then calmly slotted home the conversion.
This set the tempo for the match, with some fantastic work from Ellon to score try after try.
First half score, Ellon 53 – Perthshire 0
The second half continued where the first left off with the boys determined to keep a clean sheet and pile on the pressure to the opposition. Tries were being run in at such a rapid pace that us coaches were struggling to keep up with keeping score!!

It was such an impressive match to watch and be involved with, the entire squad linking well together and keeping each other going as tiredness set in later on. Some boys started to get a little bit of white line fever in the second half, but was quickly sorted out by the team and team play was quickly restored. Tackles were superb with excellent rucking over winning the ball back for Ellon on many occasions. The scrums were nice and strong with a good push, admittedly pushing a little early at times and the referee having to remind both sides not to push until the ball is in. The ball was moved very well from the back of a breakdown, with very few wayward passes in the whole match. There were some great lines run, receiving the ball at pace and pressing hard through the opposition with great offloads to the support runners.
You boys should be very proud of your performance and we coaches and parents look forward to seeing some more of this fantastic rugby being played.
