Ellon v Deeside/Aberdeen Wanderers 11/09/16

Was a tough game for the boys today! We always knew it would be hard when they have such a vast squad to choose from. We asked a lot of the boys today to cover the entire game with no substitutes, which they all handled very well.

Deeside came at us fast and hard from the outset and scored in the first minute. Our heads dropped a little and lost our discipline in keeping our shape, leaving some big gaps for the opposition to attack. Deeside had a few big strong runners which they used to full effect. We plugged away and tried hard to regain our composure and get back into the game. Unfortunately we did not learn from last week and continued to give away penalties for offside, ultimately putting us on the back foot again. Half time came with Deeside leading 31 points without reply from us.

The second half started well for us, holding Deeside at bay, tackling hard, rucking well over the ball and producing some strong runs forward, resulting in Ellon's first try of the game 10 minutes in. Unfortunately we could not capitalise on our ascendancy and began to lose our shape again and giving away penalties again. Deeside took full advantage and ran a few more tries in against us. Ellon boys started to get angry in the last 10 minutes (coaches had been asking for this from the outset!), which started to pay dividends and got Deeside really rattled and running complaining to the referee. Some hard and fast running saw Ellon score in the last couple of minutes of the game. Final score, Ellon 10 - Deeside/Wanderers 62.

Despite the defeat there were a lot of positives taken from the game and some great performances to boot. A good effort boys, keep those heads high and believe in yourselves. You can beat any team we come up against when you play like we coaches and parents all know you can.

Points to work on for next game - yes, you guessed it, offside line ;).

Well done boys, see you all at Wednesday training. Please make every effort to be there on Wednesday, only session we have this week due to Gordonstoun game being played on Saturday.

U15s stronger as one.
