Knock Out Rugby - KO'd

Quarter Final - done and dusted

Ellon Rugby and our u13 squad welcomed Caithness u13s' for the Quarter Final fixture in the Clulblean Challenge.

Caithness arrived early showing no ill effects of their 5 hour journey to Ellon. They were fresh full of energy and in good spirit.
It was clear to see they would be giving 110% to the game to make the most of their trip to the Meadows.

Both teams started brightly in a 14 a side format to allow the full Caithness squad to get as much game time as possible; the 45min game being split into three 15's to aid our squad rotation. We had a good representation for this game with 16 players allowing position an player rotation. Something we want to continue and build on going into the final stages of this challenge and beyond to next season where we move to 15 a side games.

Ellon got off to a good start with two quick try's both converted which got the score board moving. Caithness were unphased by this returning with a try of their own through their exciting and very fast #14.

This pattern continued through the match with Caithness getting a try in each third with Ellon (captained by Noah Scarsbrick) stretching away to end up with a convincing win.

There was a lot to be pleased about in this performance, excellent goal kicking & quick ruck speed. But overall still hard to judge as the 14 a side format left players feeling and looking out of position.

The most pleasing part of the performance was seeing the team work for each other and newer players in the squad having big performances.

The players were asked to vote on their POTM. After a quick discussion amongst themselves they gave 'Hazza' Harry Simpson the title of POTM for getting into the mix and having barn storming runs. This saw Hazza eating up half the length of the pitch and nearly finishing over the try line on several occasions.

Thanks again to the squad and supporters for your effort over the season. Another important game to look forward to on Sunday 10th, the Semi- Final match of Ellon v Aberdeen Grammar.

Looking forward to seeing you all there.
