Rugby was the winner

With only seven Mackie players ending up coming we have mixed teams today.
Whites -v- Stripes, with the seven Mackie Players split between them.

It was a difficult selection not knowing how strong the different players were.
As it turned out the game was pretty competitive with all players getting involved and playing rugby together.

Stripes were Captained by Hamish Henderson with the Whites being Captained by Noah Scarisbrick.

3x15mins periods were played.
With both sides a bit rusty and getting used to each other our home referee Jordon was rightly stopping play for the knock on's and high (but on no cases dangerous) tackles that were present during the game. Thank you Jordan for another well refereed game.

Through out the game both sides tried to move the ball wide and out of contact when they achieved this tries were scored down the wings. The ping pong nature of the game meant controlling the breakdown area was key as any turn overs were being punished by strong and elusive running.

From this it was clear the breakdown is an area (that is usually a team strength) needs concentrating on in future training sessions. Good work from Millar realising he needed to come in from fullback to secure rucks in the first and second periods highlighted this. Indeed it was work from the backs in many cases that made the difference for both teams.

By the time the 3rd period came around it was clear the humid day was starting to take its toll on the players which ironically brought out some of the best phases of play in the game, yielding well worked scores. Showing that its not always necessary to be fast and furious - structured play with support can win the day.

Tries flowing throughout the game for both sides kept the points tally ticking over which was supported by impressive goal kicking from a range of players.

Overall the scored ended with a Whites' win, 63 v 55.

Out of the 17 tries, 10 were scored by Ellon players against 7 for Mackie.

POTM goes to Euan Redpath for showing strong tackling, good handling through out the game and excellent finishing on the wing, which got him a well deserved hat trick.

Special mention to Cameron Taylor for his determination throughout the game which rewarded with him with his first try of the season.
