U13 Ellon Rugby

The U13 Ellon lads had a tough lesson today when they visited Perth Rugby Club. Perth tackled well and kept possession moving the ball out to the wings to score numerous times.
The first period saw Perth pressure right from the start as Perth kicked off and Ellon failed to gather the ball which meant Perth scored inside the first minute with their fast line speed. Perth then continued with their fast attacking line speed closing down the Ellon players and preventing Ellon getting out of their own half. The period ended Ellon 6 tries down.
The second period of 15 minutes started better for Ellon as they managed to break into the Perth half and became more physical in the tackles however 5 minutes into this period Perth scored by moving the ball wide to the wings with good support play. Once again Perth's offloading and use of backs gained them the upper hand running 5 tries in against 0 by Ellon which brought the score to 41 to 0. As there was over a 30 point difference the Red Conference U13 rules then mean the match should be stopped and a development game should be played, so to develop the players we decided to play on for the final period and keep the team together as they need game time to develop.
The last period saw the Ellon boys try hard again to match the physicality in the tackles and the rucks however Perth managed to capitalise once again as Ellon had now picked up a couple of injuries with Lewis Hay and Charlie Skinner having to come off. Perth gave Ellon a couple of lads so a quick change around for Harris MacLeod as 8 and Sam Douglas as scum half managed to hold Perth in the middle of the field. However Perth once again started moving the ball out to the wings and ran in a further 5 tries winning the match convincingly. Perth scored 16 tries with 12 conversions. It was unfortunate that the Ellon lads didn't get a score as there were some valiant efforts from Jamie Chrisite, Ryan Hanton, Sam Douglas and Ryan Dickie carrying the ball forward against a strong defensive Perth. On a positive note the lads kept playing to the end and didn't give up however were outplayed on the day by a well drilled Perth squad.
