Always great to see the lads take what we have been working on in training to the pitch. This week we worked on an evolution of the pods set up with the forwards and turned it into a rolling pod to be used in certain parts of the pitch. This was really affective from the off and the forwards worked us up the pitch very quickly from KO to lead to a very quick first try from Seb.

This form of attack was affective throughout the match and very much favoured by the forwards for obvious reasons. Some frustrations from the backs with slow ball coming from it but these frustrations were addressed by the coaches to remind them that all the time the forwards are still making ground, the ball is not to be released to the backs until all defence is sucked in; we should then be playing well up in their half and then we spin it through he hands to the backs.

This worked really well and led to a flow of tries from the forwards, starting with Odhran, Jakey (2 tries) and a pick and go from Gregor at the scrum before they eventually released the ball to the backs for Hamish to get his first try of 2 tries in total. Another forwards play up the field led to Seb getting his second try after some good hands from the backs. The lads came in at HT 46 points up to the good......

At half time, the lads were reminded that the rolling pods system would not work as effectively against all teams and that they should ensure they use other methods to ensure we maximise out threats. Some good moves from the line out led to several other attacking threats - one of these leading to Gregor getting his second try and the match then effectively ending and becoming a development game.

Muntley then dropped down a man so we matched them. When the second yellow card of the season (Odhran getting caught out with a neck roll) dropped us down to 13 men, the coaches decided to pull another man for a while and play with 12. The reason for this was to ensure that we were also tested in defence - this will become more important against other teams and the lads held out well without conceding for the rest of the match.

Some great performances all round the team with a very strong front 5 leading the rolling pod attack and Will making one of the most dominant tackles seen for a while. Special mentions also to Tyler and Gregor for their strength at breakdown and also some very powerful running. In the backs, Seb got three tries and Hamish got 2 tries but the backs but in general, when they played the ball, there was some excellent running lines and a good mix of attacking options from the backs.

MOTM was Ras again - Ras made lots of very strong runs, was dominant at the breakdown and organised the forwards through many of the rolling pod attacks. Very well done to Ras but as ever, all the lads played well and a great team effort led to a dominant win.

We now have 2 tougher games coming and we will work hard to ensure we keep the lads sharp and focussed on their structure and attacking options.
