WOW - great match to watch and a real test for the lads. At half time they were on the ropes a bit with the match potentially going either way.
They all managed to work together and hunted everything down - much more hungry for the ball this week, the back row worked really hard at the breakdown and made some great carries as well as other forwards generally getting more connected in the contact.
Really good to see the lads work out their penalty and NOT run straight into their large defence group on the line for Odhran's try - also good to see the lads faking a massive carry from Ruairi which really made them group their defence and allow a cheeky pass wide to Odhran.....!! Great penalty move and in line with what we were working on for attacking defence on the edges instead of taking them on head on.
Other tries from Ciaran, Ras, Dylan and Seb ensured we got the result in the end but all down to an excellent team gelling together.
Man of the match could have been 1 of many - but all of the pack gets an honourable mention this week. They not only competed well at the breakdown, but they also "fronted up" and ensured the Dundee pack were tied in and slowed from getting back into defence. All good stuff we have been discussing. This weeks MOTM is Will - carried the ball well, hunted down their 10 brilliantly, jackaled good and connected well - kept driving the forwards on at the breakdown. Well done Will - great performance and a smile on for whole match I think....!!
Honourable mentions - all could have been MOTM. Oisin for definitely getting in the Dundee 9s face and hassling him all match. Oisin also contributed a lot to the control of the match and really stepped up as one of the leadership team. Tyler had stormer of a match, carried really well and worked hard at the breakdown. He also got up quickly, filled in defence and tackled well. Logan - some good quick thinking and also got into their faces by "fronting up" and not allowing them to find their flow. As per above, the other members of the back line - Rauiri and Ras supported all attacks and both carried really well. I also notice several of the forwards starting to sidestep into contact and I'm thinking we're ready to move to next level of attack through the pods as we've really got addition options now for attack.
Finally - a huge thankyou to the U15s that stepped up to support us. Luke Brown and Malachy Manion playing in their first U16 match and certainly didn't look out of place. Very well done to both of you and welcome to join us any time if the U15s coaches allow it.....!!! ;-)
