After a break between Mackie and this match, the lads went back onto the pitch and obviously had analysed their performances from the first match. Plenty of keep ball and some steals in this match allowed for us to get our back line going. Thanks again to the U15's for supporting us and moving Malachy into 10 with Boyd on his outside was obvious that they had played together a lot. None of the U15's looked out of place with the U16s and all held their own with the U16's
Our lads seemed to find that extra gear in this match and everything seemed to be a little quicker, harder hitting and powerful in all phases. Malachy sold an excellent dummy to break the line and score early on at 5 mins. This was converted by Sam and then a penalty was converted by Dede in the 9th minute.
Just after HT, Malachy gets his second try after an excellent running line cut their defence in half and he went all the way through to the line. This was followed quickly by some really strong running by the forwards, worked their way right up to the red zone before Gregor breaks through again and very selflessly offloads to Woody for his first try this year (check is face and smile in the photos :-)).
Whilst we were chuffed for Dylan to get his first try for a while, we were actually more chuffed to see the lads finally starting to recognise the importance of ensuring the try as a TEAM. There was a good chance Gregor probably could have made the line but as he was half tackled, he ensured the try by offloading to the open player. This is exactly what we have been working on as the lads break the defensive line, they must then look for that pass to release the free on coming players.
Great to see and hoping we can all continue to put these pieces together as we progress to our next match v Howe of Fife on Sunday.
MOTM for this match was Malachy after his great performance at 10 and 2 tries. Very well done to all the lads and thanks again to the U15's for stepping up.
