Morpeth, one of the top NE teams came first on tour.

With hours before the SRU shut all rugby initially for two weeks, Ellon U16 played in a three way on tour near Newcastle, all games 35 minutes long.
Morpeth were up first and one of the top NE teams.
Morpeth had just played Percy Park in a 35 game and won 3 tries to 1.
This showed as they came out well from the start. They had the kick off and played with the wind, putting Ellon under a lot of pressure straight away. With three phases of driving forwards, Morpeth went over for an early try on 3 minutes. Conversion missed.
Ellon kicked off as deep as the wind allowed and then came up hard with strong line speed. A strong defence and matching Morpeth physicality, meant keeping Morpeth in their half, Ellon won a turn over and Felix Middleton broke through hard making good ground. A good few phases of rugby led to a Morpeth scrum. From here in the next attack, a maul formed and Ellon held it up for a turn over.
Ellon were really starting to dominate physically, and against a big Morpeth team also. Their technique was good and all the work in the gym has paid off.
Josh Andrew cleared with a 60 m kick in a lull of the wind. Daniel Ruddy then ran through a couple missed tackles and made good ground. Ellon went left and from crash ball to Dylan Kemp and then Mason Moir, Jamie Brooks picked up and went over wide. Conversion missed and 5-5.
Morpeth came back but Ellon’s pressure was causing mistakes on the English team. Dropped balls, forward passes and no go forward, meant Ellon took control. Ellon attacked the left wing again, good scrum pressure on Morpeth scrum, led to the 9 back pass for the stand off to clear, going astray and out through the in goal area. A scrum to Ellon on the 5m and Ellon went up another level. Huge domination at the scrum due to technique and practice, 2 phases including Josh Andrew dummy reverse pass behind the back to Ryan Dickie, who was just short, and Jamie Brooks went over again on the left, with Daniel Gillies slotting a good kick in the wind from out wide. 5-12 to Ellon.
From the kick off Ross Davidson and Arran Whitaker both took their chances to run the ball back, making good ground. Fast ball and Josh Andrew kicked, Daniel Gillies retrieved, passes inside to Josh Watson who almost made the line in a 20m break. Moving a fast ball left, and second phase, Ross Stewart went over with a conversion to Daniel Gillies. Ellon held out on their own line for 5 minutes at the end. Turning the ball over to kick clear to end the game. Final score was 5-19 in the 35 minute game.
Man of the match went to Ross Stewart for the forwards and Arran Whitaker for the backs.
Overall man of the match across games to Jamie Brooks.
