Pitch was heavy under foot but a great venue for a game. It was expected to be a close game, and it played out that way also. Ellon controlled long phases of the game, but Livingston had some big players in the forwards. This didn’t pay out as well as Livingston had hoped, as Ellon dominated the line outs. A well drilled Ellon pack with strong lifters and Captain Dylan Kemp dominating the aerial battle. This led to good ball to Ellon, who attacked well in Livi half and cleared well through the boot of Josh Andrew (whose kicks would go well in the adult game). Territory led to the score. A line out into a maul, led to a penalty and then a scrum. Ross Stewart stole the ball against the head and off the second phase, Felix Middleton drifted wide, received the ball and went over to score. It was 0-5 at half time. Although there weren't many scoring opportunities, Ellon never looked like losing and really controlled the game. Using the kick and line out and the rolling maul, along with a strong defence, kept Ellon on top. In fact two tries were denied with Livingston dragging down mauls for penalties, but didn’t get cards. Ellon finally scored wide through Jamie Brooks crashing over. This made it 0-10 and Ellon didn’t look like losing it. Even an unfortunate yellow card in the last 5 minutes didn’t change things.
Quarter finals for U16 and they have drawn Mackie at home! Played them twice in the conference and still have three games in the round robin stages of the Caledonia Cup, they now play them at home 12th January for a semi final spot.
