The youth section played in the Lancer Conference away at Mackie, who are Ellon’s closest rivals in the conference.
In the U16 game, Mackie scored early and then almost every 4 minutes! Ellon scored a well worked lineout into maul try on 20 minutes by Daniel Ruddy. Half time was 26 – 5.
Second half Mackie scored 4 more tries, but Ellon never gave up and played some good attack rugby to score their second try, with defence turned into attack off a turn over and fast passing and offloading for Josh Andrew to go over to score. Ellon dominated the Scrum and Lineout, but were beaten in defence. The scrum dominance doesn't really make much of a difference until adult rugby, but does show the good work the forwards have been doing.
Ellon U16 still sit second behind Mackie. Now unlikely to top the group as Mackie should finish unbeaten, Ellon will be looking to confirm that second spot against 3rd placed Deeside at home on Sunday 1st December. Two games left in the conference and second palce gives a National Cup spot!
Next weekend is a friendly against Orkney mixed with U15. Kick of is 10:00 on Saturday.
