Last game of the day saw Mackie come to Ellon at U16 for what its always a great game of rugby. Ellon started really well and dominated the first few minutes. Dylan Kemp made a strong tackle early on, but took a blow to the forehead and a trip to ARI. Ellon continued this form, securing a penalty which was missed. Then 2 minutes later forwards battled over for a Jamie Brooks try, which was converted from wide as Josh made up for the earlier miss in front of the posts! Ellon's dominance continued for 20 minutes, but couldn't score, showing that Mackie are a strong team to absorb the pressure and take their chances. Mackie scored 3 tries in the last 10 minutes, 2 converted, as Ellon got caught napping.
Second half was similar, With Daniel Gillies now off with a head knock also, Ellon manage a long period of dominance, just Mackie defence was excellent. It took 15 minutes for Mackie to score. And again they scored three tries and two conversions. Ross Davidson should be praised for his tackling at the back as Mackie star player Harris Mitchel broke the line a number of times, but was taken down by Ross.
Ellon just missed a consolation try at the end as there was a knock on from the pick and go from the back of a 5m scrum.
Final score was 7-38, but game was a lot closer. Ellon need to take their chances when they come up to make a difference in these big games.
Man of the Match to Jamie Brooks.
