Ellon went to Granite City, unsure what to expect this season. Teams often have players staying back at U16 again for another season as they are unable to go up to U18. Although Ellon beat Granite City last season, they were expecting a tougher opposition this year.
Ellon kicked off with the wind and downhill, taking advantage and putting GC under pressure early. Jamie Christie managed to get over the line on 3 minutes to score his fist try of the season. Josh Andrew missed the conversion. From there, Ellon went on to score 4 more tires that half through, Ross Davidson, Ryan Dickie, Ryan Hanton, and Arran Whitaker. All conversions kicked by Josh Andrew. This was 0-33 after 21 minutes. GC tightened up and became much more physical, while Ellon relaxed too much. There were no more scores this half.
It took 15 minutes into the second half for Ellon to score again as Fin Hagen scored from a back row move on a 5m scrum. With Josh Andrew converting.
Ellon relaxed a little, which allowed GC back into the game. A strong defence held GC out until a couple of penalties led to GC scoring an unconverted try. With 4 minutes left Ellon stretched GC from onside to the other, drawing player and running in a 3v1 try out wide for Euan Mackenzie. Final Score was 5-45 to Ellon. In what was a physical match, Ellon held their composure and stuck to the game plan.
