It was always going to be a tough game, against the league leaders with a strong physical squad. Ellon lost a Stand off Ewan Orus with a deadleg and Fin Hagen with a tight hamstring before the game. Josh Andrew was promoted from the u15 squad to play stand off and Lewis came of the bench to cover hooker as Archie Falconer moved back to eight.
Ellon started well, but the strong defence and physical attack from Mackie took effect after 5 minutes. Maxkie scored 4 tries and 3 conversions in the first15 minutes. Ellon scored one back through Reese Melling. Mackie scored one more converted try before half time to make it 5-33. Scored flattered Mackie, but they were the dominant team.
Second half was very evenly matched. It was 12-19 to Mackie with two more tries to Reese Melling to make his hat trick, while Ben Dickie converted one try. Final score was 17-52. Ellon go into their last game of the season Sunday against Deeside at home. 13:00 ko.
