U14 Rugby

The U14 lads headed up to Gordonstoun for the last Mitsubishi Lancer Conference game this season. This was always going to be a tough match however the lads have improved over the season and so the boys came to the game with the right spirit. Only 14 of the lads were available so a couple of the U13 players stepped up to help and were certainly not out of place, so thanks to Ruari Anderson and Ellis Cooper for helping out.

Two periods of 25 minutes were elected to be played by the home team. Gordonstoun opened the game at a blistering pace and took Ellon by surprise as the first try by the home team was scored in 30 seconds. Ellon then regained composure and started to work their way into the Gordonstoun half of the field, however eventually Gordonstoun broke the Ellon defense and ran in another couple of tries in the 6th and 9th minutes using their fast backs. Ellon then managed to counter and scored in the 10th minute. The teams were fairly evenly matched however Gordonstoun managed to break through the defense again and scored in the 12th and 20th minutes. First period ended Gordonstoun 29 (5 tries, 4 converted) to Ellon 4 (1 try 1 converted).

The second period started with Gordonstoun on the attack again, however Ellon had learned from their earlier mistakes and were matching Gordonstoun in effort and pace with some great defense and attack from both teams. A real tough battle then ensued on the pitch with Gordonstoun scoring first, Ellon countering after 4 minutes, 1 try each. Gordonstoun then got another try in the 6th minute but Ellon counter and attack and score in the 13th minute, 2 tries each this period. Gordonstoun then pull ahead again in the 15th minute, but the Ellon lads still battle on and reward themselves with a 3rd try in the dying minute of the game. The final period ends Gordonstoun 9 (3 tries 0 conversions, Ellon 11 (3 tries 2 conversions), so Ellon won the second half! Well done to all the lads and the try scorers, Ross Stewart, Jamie Brooks, Felix Middleton and Ryan Dickie.

Overall Gordonstoun won the game 29 to Ellon 15, however the lads showed they do have the skills and will to win and on a good day when it all comes together they are as good as the best teams at U14 in the conference. Keep up the hard work lads, make the effort to attend as many training sessions including S & C and lets continue to improve over the winter season with the friendly matches arranged.
