Ellon U14 took on Mackie in this great game of rugby by the team.
Both teams were pretty evenly matched and Ellon won the first scrum against the head 3 minutes into the game and worked their way up the field with a lot of the early play in the Mackie half. Eventually at a ruck Ellon lost the ball and Mackie took advantage and ran in the first converted try at 7 minutes. The Ellon lads kept their heads and pressure against Mackie which eventually paid off with Ross Stewart collecting the ball from the back of ruck from a sustained attack with the forwards hitting up the middle with several rucks for Ross to drive over between the posts from a couple of yards out in the 15th minute. First 20 minute period ends Ellon 4 v Mackie 4
The second period of play was again a close competitive match. Mackie opened the scoring in the 4th minute and Ellon kept up a good work rate which resulted in another try by the forwards for Ross Stewart and again in the 14th minute Ross Stewart gets his hat trick of tries, all converted by Ryan Dickie. Mackie then gathered their composure and scored their 3rd try in the 17th minute. Second period ends Ellon 12 v Mackie 11
Unfortunately for Ellon during the last period of play Mackie opened the scoring in the first minute and managed to keep the ball alive with their handling skills which meant Ellon did not get much ball. This resulted in Mackie scoring a further 3 tries in the 4th, 9th and 13th minutes of the final period. Mackie also converted all four tries giving them a further 16 points to add to their 11 earlier points. However Ellon had not given up and fought on. This resulted in Daniel Gillies (fullback) receiving the ball from a high kick down field in his own 22 and running the full length of the pitch side stepping most of the Mackie backs to run in a try for Ellon. Final score Ellon 15 v Mackie 27
