Ellon Loose to a good St Andrews Uni side

Duaine Lindsay,speaking after his side lost 15-38 to St. Andrews University on Saturday, September 21, “Coming into the job I thought there might be a few easy fixtures, but looking ahead there are no easy games in this league. Anyone could beat anyone on their given day.”

Two tries from debutant fly-half Jake Wills and a penalty and a conversion from Jonathan Dobson were not enough to hold off the students.
Lindsay said: “It was not as bad as the score line suggests, especially in the first half.
“Their captain came off the pitch saying they had to defend for 40 minutes so that shows you the pressure we put them under.
“With the score at 17-3 at half time, we were still in it, but St. Andrews came out and scored a try early in the second half and the boys’ heads went down.
“We did not control the game. We made the wrong decisions at crucial times and they capitalised on our mistakes.
“We pretty much had a completely new backline this week. They functioned well considering they only had a couple of training sessions together.
“We struggled a bit in the forwards with Nicki Fraser being unavailable, then losing two front row players to injury in the first 10 minutes and having Ewan Mcintyre sin-binned in the second half. Because of that our set-piece fell apart.”
