First half mistakes cost Ellon

Ellon First XV improve in the second half

Ellon First XV came up against top of the league Gordonians last Saturday, which was also ladies day at the NE club.
The game started well for Ellon who dominated for the first 10 minutes, especially in the pack, where they dominated the scrums all afternoon. However 1 turnover and Gordonians broke away and showed why they are top of the league. They didn’t really create much as a team, but took advantage at every Ellon mistake, and with a fast winger, really took to Ellon down the edges. Try after try then came from: missed tackle, kick and ball not caught, lucky bounce, turn over. This left Ellon trailing 43 0 at the end of the first half. However a great bit of individual skill by Jordan Tijou using his pace and strength to break the defence and offload for Ewan Mcintyre to score and Stuart Cruickshanks to convert. 7 43. With the second half came Ally Edwards coming off with his knee injury, but his replacement Kieran Leith had a brilliant game when he came on. This led to some forward attack play and a try for Kieran Dalgardo. After absorbing more pressure Ellon score a third try by mauling from a line out and really driving for the line. Gordonians scored in the second half also and the final score was 19 52. A much better second half, but the mistakes in the first really let the team down.
