Last weekend saw Ellon U18 and U16 play in the Caledonia Bowl Finals in St Andrews.
Two busses went down, one with players and the other with supporters and first up the U16 took on Glenrothes. A tight first half saw the lead switch both ways, but Ellon took the lead at half time. The second half was a different story as Ellon only scored a couple of times, while Glenrothes took advantage of Ellon’s tired legs to win 43 29.
Following this the U18 took on Highland, who they had played and lost to already twice this year. Three injuries in the first 15 minutes didn’t help and Ellon final succumbed to a 10 36 loss to Highland.
Both teams have had a strong season this year, developing greatly as the season went on. The coaches and players should be very proud, and here’s hoping a good rest will lead to strong season starting in August.
P3 to P7 played in the Aberdeen Grammar Festival, with P4 and P6 both reaching the finals and the P5 and P7 losing in the Semis. All teams using a range of players as the club tries to develop all players.
Meanwhile over in Banff, Ellon adult team won the Plate in the Banff 7s.
