Ellon P4 Stirling Match Report - Great performance from P4s coming third in the Stirling tournament. Started strongly with 7-4 win over 1st Stirling team. Then a good win 3-1 over a physical Irish side Malone - who are on tour. The Irish kids are allowed to run with ball under their arm and hand off so struggled with local rules, but we matched them. We then had a couple of tough matches where we lost narrowly to Stirling 2, and a 5-4 loss to eventual tournament winners Howe, which should really have been a draw, but we don't comment on match officials performance, so I won't. Normal service then resumed against Ayr, with a comprehensive 10-2 win. Throughout all the matches the kids continuity of possession, tackling and rucking was fantastic, so many tries were an offload to a person at pace cut defence to ribbons, at least 4 counter rucks where we turned over teams, great pass and pillars from base of the rucks and great individual plays. It was pleasing to have the Howe coach approach us after the tournament to ask how we were coaching our kick offs with 2nd receivers always taking ball at pace and crossing the gain line. Really pleased to see kids playing such effective rugby in a tournament played in great spirits. Thanks to Coaches and parents for support.
