Round‑robin festival ahead of the Glasgow Warriors vs Leinster fixture

Saturday’s trip to Scotstoun was a memorable one as the Ellon U13s travelled through to take part in a round‑robin festival ahead of the Glasgow Warriors vs Leinster fixture. Spirits were high even before arrival, thanks to a brilliant moment on the journey down when California Gurls — firmly established as the squad’s chosen song — was played on the radio with a clear shout‑out for the Ellon U13 boys. It set the tone perfectly, lifting the mood and adding to the growing sense that it could be a special day.

With limited information beforehand and a completely different playing format awaiting us, the festival was always going to be a test of adaptability, teamwork and attitude. The fast‑paced structure demanded high energy, sharp decision‑making and collective discipline throughout. From the outset, the group approached the challenge positively, taking time to observe the opposition and understand what would be required.

When play got underway, the response was outstanding. Defensive intensity was a real standout, with strong line speed, committed tackling and excellent work at the breakdown creating pressure and repeatedly turning possession over. The organisation and discipline in defence allowed the team to stay connected, with smart decision‑making around the ruck paying dividends across every game.

In attack, the squad adapted quickly to the reduced space and tempo. Direct running, clever use of short kicks and strong ball retention helped create opportunities across the pitch. What really stood out was the collective contribution — everyone involved, working hard off the ball, supporting one another and creating chances through teamwork rather than individual moments. The result was a series of well‑constructed scores and controlled performances that saw the team progress undefeated through the festival.

Those efforts were rewarded with a final match on the main pitch at half time, played in front of a fantastic crowd. The atmosphere was superb, with plenty of support in the stands and club colours clearly visible during the broadcast. The team rose to the occasion once again, producing a composed and determined performance to cap off the day and finish unbeaten.

Overall, it was a hugely positive experience and a proud moment for everyone involved — players, coaches, parents and supporters alike. From a radio shout‑out on the road to competing on the main pitch at Scotstoun, it was a day that showcased commitment, togetherness and what can be achieved when the group works as one on a big stage.
