Ellon find their best as they bounce back in style

Published: 13/09/2010

ELLON bounced back from the disappointment of a heavy reverse last week to convincingly see off the challenge of Murrayfield Wanderers 37-16 at The Meadows in National League 1.

“The manner of the win was most encouraging and by far our best performance of the season,” said head coach Mike Avis, who was impressed by the way his side built up momentum as the game progressed.

“We grew in strength as the second half unfolded, building on a narrow 11-3 lead in the first, although I suppose I should be unhappy about shipping two tries, though in the end we picked up four tries of our own to gain a valuable winning bonus point.”

The tries apart the Aberdeenshire side was once again indebted to stand off Mark Ryan, who kicked all four conversions, and three penalties, giving him a 100% record for the afternoon.

The prolific Ellon scorer also led his line with distinction, capping a fine day with a try to give him an impressive personal haul of 22 points. Ellon’s other points came from tries from winger David Yuill, lock Scott Johnston, and centre Iain Redmond.
