Here at Ellon Rugby we pride ourselves with developing our coaches as well as our players - better coaches, develop better players.

For many years now Ellon Rugby have continued to preserve a high number of qualified coaches across all age bands (one of the highest in Scotland in fact) and this is something we wish to maintain going forwards.

Mandatory Requirements

The minimum qualification to be involved in all coaching/refereeing rugby is the Rugby Right (along with a PVG).

Coaching

Soon, (likely next season) the minimum qualification required to coach rugby will be the Coaching Essentials (old UKCC Level 1 with a PVG). This will accommodate all areas of rugby (Junior, Youth and Adult) Sections.

Following on from the Coaching Essentials qualification, the next level is the Aspiring Coaching Programme (old UKCC Level 2), which also contemplates Junior, Youth and Adult Coaching.

The ultimate coaching qualification is the Advanced Coaching Programme (old UKCC Level 3), which will be available soon and is completed over a 12-month period.

Ellon Rugby’s desired outcome regarding the level of coaching qualification expected for each Section is as follows:

1. Junior Section: Coaching Essentials (old UKCC L1)
2. Youth & Adult: Aspiring Coaching Programme (old UKCC L2)

Any coach wishing to complete the Advanced Coaching Programme shall be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

Refereeing

At the moment the SRU are running 2 referee/officiating courses as follows:

1. Introduction to Match Officiating
2. Mini Rugby Refereeing.

Additional Resources

In addition to the qualifications above, there are these World Rugby courses:

1. World Rugby Level 1: S&C.

• This is required to work with and build programmes in S&C within the rugby environment.
• The S&C course should become available in the New Year

2. World Rugby First Aid in Rugby (FAIR) Level 1.

• Ellon Rugby hope to run a FAIR at Ellon soon.

Courses being held at Ellon Rugby soon are:

1. Mini Rugby Refereeing (P2-7). 22nd October 18:00-21:00. Paddock.
2. Coaching Essentials (All). 20th November 10:00-17:00. Ellon.
3. Aspiring Coaching Programme (All). 23rd - 24th April 09:00-17:00. Ellon
4. First Aid in Rugby (All – selected members). Date TBC.
