Most will be aware by now, but for good order the following statement highlights the decision made in late January with regards to Ellon Rugby Club's request to be withdrawn from the Arnold Clark National League Division 4 (Men's) Competition.
Due to the ongoing number of mid to long term injuries, players working away from home more etc, work commitments etc. a meeting was called to discuss whether we could continue to compete in National 4. The meeting was held on the 20th January attended by players, most of the coaching and management team, myself (Derek Fraser, Director of Rugby) and the (Chair, Julie Coutts). Following an overview from the (Head Coach Bradley Fraser) and myself, everyone present without exception agreed that the position had become untenable.
Thereafter the SRU were made aware of our ask to be withdrawn from the league effective 24/01/26 which was accepted by return. For the forthcoming Season 26/27 we've had it confirmed that Ellon will be placed back within Arnold Clark Caledonia League Division 1 (Men's).
To that end, going forward training will continue with a focus on S&C to help build players back to full strength. During this time, the players will look at alternative 10's (we're looking to host one at Ellon) and 7's Tournaments. The Club will also focus on external player recruitment for next season to bolster numbers.
Yours in Rugby,
Derek Fraser
