Ellon U18 started the fixtures off with a home game to Dumfries at 12:30. In a game Ellon really should have won, they failed to step up and take the win. Ellon started well using the wind and kicking to the corners, however turnovers and a mistake at a scrum let Dumfries attack Ellon and the received a penalty which was kicked. Aaron Bonner took a great catch and side stepped a player before running 40 meters and just getting taken out 1 meter short. This led to a knee knock which kept him off for most of the game, until a late cameo. The first of many injuries for Ellon. With Dumfires being very brutal and running with very physical lads up the middle, Ellon really took a few bumps. One such move saw a player take the dummy and leave a hole for the Dumfries stand off to run through and score a 50m try, converted. This was followed by Jake Martin taking a bang on the head and coming off for safety reasons. (Jake will now be out for 3 weeks under concussion rules). Ellon stepped up the play and winger Sam Taitson, received the ball and drove up the field, shrugging off tackles. Ball went to the other wing and back again for Sam to score after a penalty advantage. Converted by Paul Paxton for 7 – 10. Multiple penalties by Dumfries led to a Paul Paxton kick for a half time score of 10 all.
This great game of rugby continued in the second half with the physicality of which Dumfries came out on top. With front rows seeming to receive the ball first, it was hard to get the ball spread wide for Ellon, but Dumfries drove into Ellon and scored two quick tries, one an outstanding back row move. Ellon effort was rewarded at the end of the game when Bonner came back on and scored a late try in the corner after multiple penalties by Dumfries. Final score was 15 30 and a disappointed Ellon U18 team.
