It was a big shame for the Ellon U18 team who were looking forward to the first game in the new National U18 League.

Glasgow arrived at 12:30 for a 14:00 KO with only 12 players and failing to notify Ellon in advance. This led to the referee and both head coaches checking the rules and a game can’t go ahead unless a team has 13 players. All agreed a forfeit and Ellon would win 20 – 0.
A training game went ahead with 12 v 12 and no back rows on the scrums. This was awkward for Ellon who play extensively from their flankers and number eight. Both teams scored tries, however with players being subbed and swapped about and playing in different positions, it was hard to gain much from the game, apart from those new to the squad managed to get some game time under their belts.
Man of the Match Matthew Emmison scored three tries and set up Mikey Bonner for one, along with James Evans.
At the time of writing, the SRU league committee are having a meeting to decide the outcome of the game. Apparently the rules state that games cannot be forfeit, despite the clubs all having to sign a contract stating they had funds to play up to six away games and a big enough squad to play these fixtures. Watch this space for a ruling! I will update below when we are informed.
