Match Report

Another superb effort by the boys vs Robert Gordons College, with a comfortable 13-1 win.

Last week some of the tackle completion stats were frankly quite shocking (even though we won) and hence on Thursday there was a massive focus on footwork placement and body shapes just before tackles. Yesterday there was a massive improvement from everyone, and we only conceded a single try. Gordons had quite a few big strong hard runners and we were continually sending them backwards.

Attacking wise, 13 really nice trys with Hugo and Struan on 4, Mac and Jamie with 2 and Finlay with another. Nice mixture of up the middle and out in wider channels. As per last week the new kick off rules are really working to our advantage, and we seem to chase and regather a lot of restarts. For attacking rucks we won 100%. We spent a lot of time in defensive rucks and managed to turn over 6 which was brilliant.

There's been a lot of discussion between the coaches because we really want to mention so many players, there were lots of guys really stepping up their game from last week. Given what we wanted to achieve this week there is a big focus on the defensive efforts.

Man of the Match
Hugo - Got 4 trys and generally caused Gordons defence a lot of problems the entire game. Strong in rucks and got 4 of the 6 turnovers we won. Best of all a flawless 100% tackle completion. What I really enjoyed was one big tackle where he immediately rolled away, jumped up, and got set into the defensive line.

A shout out to Struan who was solid all day long with 4 trys and and was very busy on the number of tackles made too and only a couple behind Hugo.

Most Improved
Finlay - by his own admission was a bit off the boil last week with regards to number of missed tackles. But this week he turned that around entirely. He was our top player for the number of tackles made and there were only a couple of misses. Lots of times he was putting much larger players backwards which shows that good technique (and a bit of bravery) is all you need for the size miss matches!

A shout out to Jamie who also greatly improved the number of successful tackles this week. He got very busy in defence the whole game and scored a couple of great trys.
