The boys played very well against some good teams. Although it wasn't a tournament we did keep the scores:
Livingston V Ellon was a win 11-7 to ELLON
Perth V Ellon was a win 5-7 to ELLON
Madras v Ellon was a win 8-6 to MADRAS
Lasswade V Ellon was a win 6-7 to ELLON.
Three wins and 1 lost to a very good Madras side. All boys got even game time, although I put the bigger boys in the Lasswade game as their players were large to say the least! To be honest we totally out classed Livingston and Perth, Madras was the closest game with Ellon playing excellently technically. The coach came over and said that the Ellon boys were the best technical rucking he had seen. Lasswade we really won by a lot more, but I (I was reffing this one) evened it out a little by allowing them to play on after a few knock ons and mistake. One of the Lasswade mums came over and said how sporting we were and that we had a great team spirit, which is always nice to hear.
All in all very very encouraging. We learnt a lot, particularly about making tackles, chasing back, but mostly the rush defence! This was used against us very well by Madras and it is something we will now be adopting in our games.
