An outstanding second half display saw the U16s overtake Gala 24 points to 19 with 7 minutes to go and eventually loose a pulsating cup tie.
In front of a healthy Ellon Crowd the U16s started slowly and lacked belief in the first half on Sunday, as they went into half time loosing 17 points to 5 having really not played badly at all they had just failed to capitalise on some excellent play.
After the half time interval the Ellon team came out on fire scoring 3 excellent trys the best of which came after an excellent flowing move off a line out that enabled a score in the corner and the converted kick gave Ellon a well deserved lead of 5 points, with the crowd on fire after they had seen the youngsters turn the game around.
Sadly that excitement led to a series of mistakes that enabled Gala to take the lead back by 3 points as they converted a try.
After pressing hard again Ellon threw caution to the wind as they continued to batter the Gala side but it was Gala who sealed the tie with a late try under the posts which came from an uncharacteristic mistake in the Ellon defence.
At the end of the game a relieved Gala coach was very sad for the Ellon boys as he felt no team deserved to loose an exciting game and he said Ellon really played some exceptional rugby.
So Ellon finish runners up in the quarter final but certainly not second as they showed what heart passion and desire they all have to deliver a very good performance.
