Ellon Triumph in close encounter

After a loss against Kirkcaldy the U16S were eager to get the early season form and fluency back in their play against GHA in the National Cup first round.
The previous week they had fallen short of their own high standards and early exchanges against a useful GHA side had resulted in confusion in the an Ellon Lineout and an alert GHA reacted quickly to kick and dive the ball over the line.
Not deterred the Ellon team dug in and started to put together some strong phases which had the hands been better they had an opportunity to score at least 2 trys themselves.
So running into half time saw Ellon 5 points to nil down and very much still in the game.

The second half continued as the first with a lkot of play being between the 22s and with five minutes left on the clock a nervous crowd became agitated when after some excellent forward play which saw the Ellon team in the GHA 22 a pass out to the backs was dropped and a scrum ensued which resulted in GHA kicking to touch.

With 4 minutes left Ellon won the ball and then proceeded to march up the pitch into the 22 again and with great patience and control the forwards scored with Cousins touching it down.

The kick all important but an assured Fraser kicked it over in front of the posts Ellon had taken the lead 7 TO 5.

The drama continued and Ellon gave away a penalty close to their own posts but GHA argued and then had the penalty reversed which meant Ellon got the ball and with that the game was over.

It was a gutsy determined performance by Ellon who still need to reach their early season form but a team that can win when it is not in full swing must be a good team.

So the quarter final at home against Gala Red Triangle will be a hard affair so again the boys need to be ready.
