Ellon recorded another win on Saturday as they beat Aberdeen Grammar 2nd XV to maintain their 100% start to the season.
This was the first game this season where Ellon failed to record a try scoring bonus points but The Meadows side did enough to see off Grammar for their seventh win in a row.
Hot on their tail at the top of the table are second placed Garioch who are just five points behind after a 29-0 win away to Deeside.
Ellon were due to meet Deeside in the league last weekend but the game had to be postponed and the scheduled BT Bowl fixture on November 4 will now act as a league and cup double header.
Speaking after the win in Aberdeen, Ellon 1st XV Head Coach Sam Mountain said:
“It was frustrating that our game was called off but these things happen and there is no point dwelling on them just accept that and move on.
“Being unbeaten is a bonus to us its not the be all and end all. “These guys have shown they can cope with pressure by winning those types of games where you have to be patient, because not everything was going for us, so we were smart when we took our opportunities.
“Had grammar kicked their penalties it could of been a different story but we defended superbly and will have to continue to do so.
“Grammar were well organised and had a strong set piece. We did well to grind out a result against them, our large away support cheered the boys throughout to keep them going.”
This weekend Ellon welcome RAF Lossiemouth to The Meadows. “We never played them last year due to the split so personally I am unsure how they will try and play,” said Mountain. “I imagine they will be fit, organised and have a good skill set and we again will have to be at our best for 80 minutes to ensure we get a result and to keep our good form going.
“We keep producing good performances as the season goes on and another is required on Saturday.”
Following the RAF Lossiemouth game and the league/cup fixture against Deeside the following weekend Ellon, along with many other clubs in Scotland, will have the rest of November off to enjoy the Scotland National team’s Autumn test series where they will take on Samoa, New Zealand and Australia at Murrayfield, Edinburgh.
Ellon will return to action after the series on Saturday, December 2, when they face Moray in Elgin.
