Ellon RFC underlined their spot on top of the BT Caledonia Division 2 table on Saturday with an impressive 27-14 win away to Mackie Academy. The two sides went in to the game having both won their opening two league fixtures but it was Ellon who made it three from three when the final whistle went.
The Meadows side have now opened up a gap of four points between themselves and second placed Moray at the top of the table, although it is still very early days in what will be a long season.
Speaking after the win, 1st XV coach Sam Mountain was delighted with his players performance.
He said: “It was a good win against a good strong Mackie side which we are pleased with.
“We were never behind but Mackie where always at the races and battled right to the end, they made us work very very hard in order for our try bonus point, a bonus point I feel we deserved as we played very intelligently but again inaccuracy let us down.
“That being said, we are still only four games into the season so it will improve and we can only get better.
“The guys where fantastic last Saturday and they have taken confidence from that result.
