At times atrocious conditions

Ellon RFC took a break from their early season league duties and travelled north to face Inverness Craig Dunain in the BT Caledonia Regional Bowl North on Saturday.
The visitors quality shown through in the match against the Caledonia 3 side as Ellon went on to win the game 42-7. Speaking after the match, Ellon 1st Xv coach Sam Mountain said: “They defended very well first half but I knew we would have too much as the course of the game went on and it showed.
“We know we will have to perform better as for large parts against ICD we where below par but we adapted to atrocious conditions well. “Its always good to have a cup run gives the guys a chance to aim for some silver wear, we have taken the same philosophy as the league, one game at a time no point looking ahead and forgetting what’s in front you, as that is when complacency creeps in.”
The other teams progressing in the competition were Deeside, Fraserburgh and Dyce - all of whom had byes in to the next round, as well as North Police Scotland, Huntly, Ross Sutherland and Aberdeen University.
It’s back to league action this weekend for Ellon, as first meets second at Redcloak when they face Mackie Academy FPs. “Its a big game of course its a local rivalry and we haven’t played each other in a few years so will be a good local derby.” Said Mountain. “Again its one game there are plenty of other games throughout the season as a whole and would be silly to say this decides how are season goes. “We are looking forward to a real test as Mackie come off the back of some impressive wins none other than putting away Caley 1 Glenrothes with what seems relative ease. “But we are fully focused on us and our preparations going into this weekend and again putting in the hard work at training am sure will pay off.” That match is scheduled for a 3:00 pm kick off.
