Busy weekend across the country for Ellon Rugby.

The First XV played in the Cup away to Blairgowrie. In what was expected to be a tough game, Ellon came up against a determined team. Nicki Fraser scored for Ellon in the first half and Archie Andrade the second half, with Callum Cruickshanks converting. However this 12 points didn’t match the 42 from Blairgowrie. Ellon’s mind may have been a little focused on the league this season, in their first season at this level. This coming weekend they have a bye week, before facing Grangemouth away on the 1st December. Ellon sit just above Grangemouth, but lost to them at home in a frustrating game that Ellon should have won. Ellon will look to make amends on the road.

Saturday saw the start of the Youth games in the Lancer Conference as Ellon entertained Gordonstoun. U18 played an early KO and too the game to Gordonstoun early on. A number of scores in the first half took it to 25-0 at half time and despite some key players being substituted and heading down to Murrayfield to catch the game, Ellon pushed on and finally won 49-5.
Sunday saw the rest of the Youth section play. U16 played one of the finest performances of the year in the first half. A very physical game, which frustrated Gordonstoun, leading to a few penalties and a yellow card. Ellon led 49-0 at half time, but allowed Gordonstoun to wind them up enough to allow Gordonstoun a couple of tries. Ellon however rallied and finished the game off with a 63-14 win. 9 tries and all converted to Ellon and 2 for Gordonstoun. Man of the match to Archie Falconer who seemed to be everywhere on the pitch!
U15 played a very close, fast game which Gordonstoun took by 2 points late on in the game. It was close throughout, but Ellon were the stronger team. A poor decision late on let Gordonstoun sneak it 38-40.
U14 were renewed with a bigger squad this week and it really showed. A close first half, Gordonstoun faded the second half and Ellon strolled away winning 26-15. Similar at U13, the squad here have great belief and their teamwork was outstanding. Winning 35-25.
Overall in the League Ellon Youth sit second behind Mackie, at U18 they top the league, while U16 and U15 sit second.
This coming weekend is Mackie at home in a top of the table battle.

Junior section travelled to Stewart Melville to take part in their festival. As always a great event and new teams to play.
