Hard work by the young team paid off!

Last weekend saw the last game of the season for Ellon Rugby. Ross Sutherland travelled down from Invergordon with a formidable team so Ellon knew they were in for a battle. Ellon needed a bonus point win for second place in the league. The Ellon supporters did the club proud by turning up in number and with their voices! The boys returned the favour by playing some outstanding rugby. Starting well and getting a good lead, the crowd respond by being vocal and created a great atmosphere. Ellon went on to get their bonus point in the first half, however Ross Sutherland pushed back hard and made a game of it before Ellon’s youthful fitness and hard running extended their lead in the last quarter. With a great final win, 51 – 19, Ellon finished second in the League.
However, this wasn’t the end of the story! With no team in the National leagues being relegated to Caledonia 1, that left an extra promotion place for the second-place team! Ellon Rugby gain promotion to Caledonia 1!
Next season will be a tough one, but Ellon have a decent squad, with young players starting to gain experience. Exciting times ahead for the Ellon team!

Also last weekend Ellon U14 headed to Stirling County for 7s. Ellon comfortably beat Stirling, McLaren, and Forrester. The following two games were a lot harder as they played a tough Boroughmuir and Perthshire. Missing out on both games meant they didn’t make the semis but gained a lot of experience.
Next weekend, the two fixtures are the juniors heading to Garioch for a tournament and U13 to Stirling for7s. 2 Ellon Lads Finlay Hagen and Archie Falconer both have Caledonia U16 trails in St Andrews.
