P4 Match Report Grammar - Well done everyone today 2nd place at the Grammar Tournament. We played on actual grass and the sun was shining!

Super proud of everyone’s efforts. Starting off against a strong Grammar side – tit for tat scoring with the passing and tackling of a really high calibre and some fantastic rucking – first ruck of the match we turned over grammar and in subsequent phases scored. It was 4-4 when the whistle went – what a close one.

Then a really tough test - Stirling (they brought only one team despite the fact they can field 2 good teams at our age group) so you can imagine the caliber. Despite fighting hard we were 2 tries down at half time, but with some determined play and in particular some physical stuff standing up to their big players we overhauled them and won 6-5 – that’s grit. Wanderers was our last match, they had some wicked fast kids, but Ellon tackled their hearts out and we overhauled another try deficit early on, to win 6-3.

Group winners! We played Garioch in a very tense Semi. We lost to the same team in our last tournament so I was immensely proud of the effort to pip the guys 5-4 in the end. When we get a rub of good luck allied to our great play I know we always have a chance!

Into the final against the old enemy Mackie. Probably one of the most physical games I have seen this season. We took a number of injuries early on and our subs really played their hearts out to keep us in contention. Mackie can call on some really big, fast players and despite that we fought hard. We clawed back an early deficit, only to have Mackie nip us to the post, loosing by a single try. The momentum was really with us but we ran out of time!!!!

Great rugby, the Grammar referee of our pitch through the day came up to us at the end of the Final to say categorically that although the kids lost they played the best rugby by far across our matches, adding to similar compliments from Howe coaching staff the week before about the kids.
