We were in a pool of 5 teams. 2x Grammar, Wanderers and Mackie.

Having Watsonians train with us yesterday was great preparation and we used that opportunity to prioritise what we needed to do to win and be competitive!

Grammar were our first opponents. We were quick off the blocks competing well at the breakdown stealing ball and then solid in attack with good bursting runs and good support play. Another huge improvement - we held onto our ball with hardly any handling errors so putting loads of pressure on their defence.
Our defence was superb with everyone getting stuck in and tackles were being made protecting our lead. We deployed a full back position when we were defending and that seemed to work well when their attackers burst through our defence. Great effort and a very good win against Grammar.
Next game was versus Wanderers. We played with the same intensity and our attack and defence was superb. We were supporting one another and with good strong attacks we won the game. Credit to our defence we only lost two tries in the game.
The third game against the second Grammar side was another close fought game but our attack and tackling got the better of them with us winning again. Three wins and we were into the Semi finals.
Our final opponent in the group stages was Mackie. We started off poorly with their big runners bursting through our defence. Missed tackles early on in the first half were our undoing. Second half we took the game to Mackie and we were more competitive but it was too little to late. Some great attacking rugby but we lost the ball a few times in rucks, and there were some superb tackles.
The Semi final
As we were runners up (same points as Mackie but they scored the first try in our game with them) we played Watsonians.
It was a really good game with both sides attacking and defending well. However I think we were tiring and Watsonians pushed on and booked their place in the final against Mackie.
The third / fourth playoff against the third Grammar team was a game of two halfs. We were pretty dominant although it was a share of the points at half time. Then with tired legs some injuries and letting out heads go down when the referees decision did not go in our favour cost us the game.
With only 8 players and lending players to the harlequins team was probably why we faded in the end. We relied on brute force to score tries which was great to see but there were easier options at times.
Your passion and skill level was immense throughout. Great attack and good solid handling. Defensively was much improved with great try saving tackles being made,
Mackie next and I know you can deliver another performance. See you there!
