This weekend Ellon took a P4/5 and 2 P6/7 teams to Perth to play in the Positive Coaching Scotland Festival

All accredited clubs in Scotland met in Perth for a huge rugby festival, for the last one of the season.
Ellon had two P6/7 teams in, team 1 in the experienced bracket and team 2 in the less experienced.
Team one came against Dundee Wasps first and although they were slow starting, so were Wasps so the game was fairly equal. Strong attack play and one key turn over won the game for Ellon 3 - 2. Second match was against Peebles 2 where Ellon really stepped up the tackles and rucking and in a very close game came out winners 3 - 2 again. Next was Biggar in the best game of the day. This ended in a 4 - 4 draw and both teams played their socks off! Good tackles, rucking and turn overs lead to a very exciting game.
Finally Ellon played Peebles 1 which was a totally P7 team. Ellon lost 3 0 but played outstanding rugby against tough, big opposition.
The interaction between Stevie Gray and James Hamilton created a lot of chances while Ben Dickie led by example as always.
The second Ellon P6/7 team came up against Cartha, Lochaber, Irvine and Peebles. With a less experiences team, the boys really stepped up and playing at this level meant they all could learn in a suitable environment. Great performance by Callum Caven and Julian Kedziora, while Euan Bonner is back after his injury and back on form, tackling like he used too! Final results was two big wins and two close losses with the best game v Irvine winning 6 - 4.
At P4/5 Ellon put one team in and played in the experienced group. Although P4 & 5P players don’t often spend a lot of time together, they played very well as a team working hard for each other. During the festival the boys were always very enthusiastic, keen to play and take responsibilities. On the scoring side they lost 1 match, draw 2 and won 1. With some great runing through the defence along with very good offloading sequences, the ball was kept moving. A lot of scoring opportunities were created which indicates that all players were playing an active part in rucking and tackling. Each match was played at fast peace and tries were coming fast from both sides. Ellon put in a massive effort in attack scoring over 20 tries! But what was outstanding is the hard work that each player put in attack and defence to compete against some very good teams.
Over all it was brilliant rugby and the Ellon coaches were very proud of the players.
Junior Head Coach and Vice President Gareth Kemp said:
“It is great to see such a huge number of clubs, all PCS accredited, playing in one place”! “The manor the games were played in was fantastic and the games were evenly matched, which led to players stepping up and some of the best rugby of the season was played.” “Well done to all the players involved”.
