Last Saturday training was postponed for a Sponsored Fun Run at Aden Country Park.

Over 250 people turned up for the run and fun day, ranging from the old boys (Ythan Bears), First XV players, down to the Youth and Junior players, including the newly formed 3 year olds “Rugby Rascals”. After registration there was the main event of a 1 hour run/jog/walk around a 700 m track. Everyone had 1 hour to see how many laps they could complete. There wasn’t a winner as such, but Fraser Cruickshank completed the most with an outstanding 24 laps. Even better when you realised he has just come back from a leg injury.

After the fun run, everyone enjoyed a BBQ and soft drinks in the glorious sunshine, before the games began! Mixed aged obstacle course, tug of war, touch rugby and rugby rounders for two hours kept everyone entertained! The weather was perfect which led to the large numbers and everyone staying so late to enjoy the games.

Money on the day from the BBQ and sponsorship came to £4,500 (with money still to come in) and one lad raised £1,200!
The money raised will be spent of Youth Development in the NE of Scotland. Ellon has the largest catchment area in the district, covering Bridge of Don, Ellon, Old Meldrum, Mintlaw, Peterhead and Fraserburgh.
Ellon employ a development officer and a Modern Apprentice to assist in club coaching, but mostly community coaching and support.
Ellon Rugby are looking for a sponsor for the Development Officer and Modern Apprentice for the next season.

If you would like to support this initiative, the club has a great package available, please contact Vice President Gareth Kemp on garethkemp@ellonrfc.co.uk

This coming Saturday is the Junior Section Presentation Day at 11:00 in Deer Park.
