Last game of the Seaosn for the Firsts, while U18 make the Caley Bowl Final.

Last Saturday saw Ellon First XV play their last game of the season, away to top of the table and unbeaten Strathmore.
It was expected to be a tough game, and it turned out to be!
Strathmore showed why they were unbeaten league champions by starting early with a strong forward unit and fast backs. Scoring rapidly in the first half, Ellon answered with a try to Stewart Ovall and a conversion to Ross Grieg. Strathmore continued the relentless attack, which was slowed up by Ellon, into the second half, where Ross Greig got a try for Ellon. Final score was 92 – 12. A tough score to take, but a similar score that other clubs had received away at Strathmore! Including second place Dunfermline.
Ellon finished the league exactly midway. 5th in a strong league for their first season in Caledonia 1, with a very young squad, was a great outcome. With a good preseason, an increase in squad size, Ellon should be able to push on for a higher placed finish next season.
Ellon U18 played Kirkcaldy in the Caledonia Bowl Semi Final at the meadows. Ellon with a part development squad as a number of players with the First XV. Ellon started quickly, scoring after 2 minutes but missing the conversion. Kirkcaldy stepped up the pressure, but Ellon’s defence was excellent to hold them out. The story of the day for Ellon was a strong defence, but faltered a little in attack. In a game where they should have scored more, they just didn’t fire fully. In exception to this, the young Jack Duncan stood out with a fantastic game in attack. When he broke clear he always put the team on the front foot, and Ellon got a scrum 5 m out from his attack. Off the scrum, number 8 Adam Falconer scored to make it 10-0.
Similar story in the second half as a strong defence stopped the Kirkcaldy attack, a slightly under firing attack, made it up field for Adam Falconer to score again, this time converted for 17-0. With 10 minutes left Kirkcaldy finally break the Ellon dogged defence to score out wide, however Ellon made the final score 22-5 with a late try.
Ellon U18 now move to the Final against Dundee.
Ellon U15 game had to be cancelled as Dundee U16 couldn’t raise a team. This means Ellon U16 reach the Shield final against Stirling County.
This Saturday Ellon U15 play Ross Sutherland from Invergordon at the Meadows at 13:00 in the Caledonia Bowl quarter final. If they win that match, it is Dunfermline at home on the 14th April in the Semi Final.
Finals day for all will be 28th April in Perth.
